United Nations: Myanmar’s military leaders should face genocide tribunals

PERSECUTED BECAUSE THEY ARE MUSLIMS

The military forces of Myanmar have been accused of a horrifying list of violations, including murder, torture, burning of Rohingya villages and rape… Rape of young girls and young men. The gross Human violations led to more than one million people to flee to neighbouring Bangladesh.

The chief prosecutor of International Criminal Court (ICC) Miss Bensouda has confirmed that she will look at reports of ‘’ a number of alleged coercive acts having resulted in the forced displacement of the Rohingya people including deprivation of basic fundamental rights, killing, sexual violence, enforced disappearance, destruction and looking’’.

In a 432- page report, members of a fact finding mission depicted with precise details the gross violations committed by the fascists members of the military force of Myanmar ( formely Burma). The unbacked fact finding mission ( which was not welcome in Myanmar) spent 13 months investigating the military actions that started in August 2017.

According to the team, Chairperson Marzuki Darusman the military crackdown by the Myanmar’s military had led to the death of at least 10,000 people ( including women, children and babies) and the total destruction of more than 37,000 homes and structures. The vast majority of destruction was caused by Arson.

Mr Marzuki Darusman said: ‘’ with a heavy and deep sadness we have drawn conclusions on the basis of the facts that we never expected would be as grave as they are. What we have found are not only the most serious Human Rights violations but crimes of the highest order under international law”. One of the countries that has not taken time to react is Canada. The house of commons of Canada has endorsed the findings of the un fact finding mission on the atrocities of the Myanmar’s regime. The house of commons ( the equivalent of our National Assembly) has voted ( unanimously ) to declare Myanmar’s military action against the Rohingya people a genocide. The House of commons of Canada also urged the un security council to refer the case to the International Criminal Court while also calling for the Generals of Myanmar to be prosecuted ‘’ for the crime of genocide”.

The Minister of Foreign affairs said after the unanimous vote: “ I want to underscore how tragic, how horrific the crimes against the Rohingya are and we are leading an International effort for justice and accountability for the Rohingya!

In the wake of the Canadian (which is supported by Australia- United Kingdom and some European countries ). I am urging the Political parties of our Republic to formally take a stand and urge our government to support now the Canadian move and not next year when the elections are looming.

I will do my duty and I am writing to our Minister responsible of foreign affairs for a statement to be issued so that there is no wishy-washy stand. You can also write to your leaders or the Prime Minister urging them to be bold.

How much does it cost you?
