PRAY FOR THEM : BLACK SEPTEMBER!

Nearly all the Arab countries have directly or indirectly betrayed the Palestinian cause. The BLACK SEPTEMBER FREEDOM FIGHTERS who killed” Israelis at the 1972 Olympic games in Munich chose a name they believed exposed the treachery of the Jordanian regime that expelled them from Jordan. The Black September FREEDOM fighters who perpetrated the attack on the Israeli athletes were right in all. The aim was never to kill any coach or athlete but to take the athletes as hostages to secure the release of 234 Palestinian prisoners in Israel as well as the leaders & founders of the GERMAN RED ARMY FACTION who were imprisoned in what was then West Germany. The two German Red Army Faction leaders were Andreas Baader and Ulrike Meinhof.

Briefly, the German Red Army Faction which was pro all people’s liberation organisation was founded by young left wingers who saw themselves as fighting a West German ultra-capitalist establishment which they were convinced was nothing more than a reincarnation of the ‘third reich’of Hitler. In 1970 several members of the group headed off to Jordan where they were formed by members of the PALESTINIAN LIBERATION ORGANISATION to the numerous techniques of urban guerilla including fabrication of bombs and how to use Kalashnikov.  At one moment the Red Army Faction was very popular with the youngsters in Western Europe. The RAF is responsible for the killing of at least 30 persons in the 1970s and 1980s. In September 1977 the RAF abducted schleyer who was ‘le patron des patrons’ and a former member of the Nazi party. However the fall of the Berlin war in 1989 weakened the group immensely as the former East Germany was known to be very supportive of the RAF. East Germany did even organise refuge for the members of RAF. On 20th April 1998, the group announced its dissolution with the now famous signing off ‘THE revolution says: “I was, I am, I will be again”.

In 1970 nearly two-thirds of the Jordanian population were Palestinians under the leadership of the PALESTINE LIBERATION ORGANISATION of Yasser Arafat launched a series of raids from Egypt, Lebanon and Jordan.

What was the role of the Jordanian king in the 1967? Jordanian King Hussein (the darling of Israel and of the Western media) was never keen to fight the 1967 war. The Jordanian prior to the occupation of the West Bank by Israel in 1967 was always against the Palestinians using their territory to attack Israel. Today it is a well-publicised fact that king Hussein had maintained secret, cordial relations with Israel through the 1950s and 1960s. Today the relations are not even secret. King Hussein was very fraternal with the butcher Ariel Sharon even after the Chatila & Sabrah massacres.

From 9th June to 16th June 1970 Jordan army and the Palestinian militias led by the PLO fought several bloody battles. More than 1000 people were killed or wounded. An agreement was reached between King Hussein and Yasser Arafat wherein King Hussein pledged his support for the Palestinian cause and non-interference in the quasi military raids on Israel by the Palestinians. But the exchange was : Palestinians must strictly respect Jordanian sovereignty and remove all Palestinian militias from the capital of Jordan, Amman. The agreement was futile. The Palestinian militias were removed from Amman to the joy of Israelis. But Jordanian support to the Palestinian cause was merely cosmetic. Furthermore the great Gamal Abdel Nasser agreed to the surprise of the Palestinians to a cease fire to the war of attrition against Israel. George Habash was shocked and promised to the Palestinians that ‘ we will turn the Middle East into hell”. 50 years later Middle East is apart from Israel. On 31st July 1970 before an ecstatic crowd of more than 40,000 Palestinians, Arafat invoked the battle of MKarathon ( a battle which took place 490 BC during the first Persian invasion of Greece). And promised ‘we will liberate our land’.

Between 9th June and 15 September King Hussein escaped three assassination attempts. The Palestinians became the scapegoat.

Why Black September?

Despite the agreement to support the Palestinian cause King Hussein turned against the Palestinians who have highjacked five planes & held many hostages. The highjacking was spearheaded by George Habash leader of PFLP. The Jordanian military with the intelligence backing of Israel surrounded the Palestinian freedom fighters despite the fact that Yasser Arafat managed to release the hostages. A Bloodbath ensued

How many Palestinians were killed?

  • 15,000 (yes fifteen thousand) Palestinian militants and innocent civilians were killed.
  • All Palestinian towns and refugee camps were bulldozed.
  • The PLO leadership and other Palestinian groups were decimated.
  • All the weapons amassed by the different Palestinian groups were seized.
  • More than 100,000 people were left homeless.

On September 25,1970, King Hussein (who was criticised by the Arab world for ‘Overkill”) and the PLO of Yasser Arafat signed a cease fire. The PLO was promised control over three towns-Irbid, Ramtha and Jarash- but months later Araft & the PLO were expelled from Jordan. The Jordanians accused the Palestinians of having set up a State within a State in Jordan.

The Palestinians had to flee Jordan to go to Lebanon. And what about the BLACK SEPTEMBER organisation? Israeli Prime minister ordered the setup of a hit squad to murder all those connected with BLACK SEPTEMBER. And they succeeded with the help of the CIA. But the BLACK SPETEMBER organisation did succeed to kill the Jordanian Prime Minister WASIF AL-TEL in Cairo on November 28, 1971. Wasif Al Tal was instrumental to the killing of Thousands of Palestinians. Al Tal was even despised by Anwar Sadat. It speaks volume. what is Tal!

Egyptian court found the assassins of Tal innocent and were instantly released Note also that BLACK SEPTEMBER accused Tal of personally torturing Abu Ali Iyad a Fatah field commander whose friends formed the backbone of Black September. Tal was so despised by the Palestinians that when he was dying on a street in Cairo one of the assassins, it is reported, Knelt and asked for God’s forgiveness and lapped with his tongue the oozing blood… Yasser Arafat claimed responsibility for the killing.
